2002-2003 Contest

The 2002-2003 contest task was to clean, polish and buff a shoe. The contest was held on Friday, December 6, 2002 at the Carnegie Science Center’s UPMC SportsWorks complex. Finishing in third place was Fox Chapel Area High School with their entry "Save Your Sole." Second place was earned by Elderton Jr./Sr. High School with “The Car Wash”. The first place winner was Conemaugh Township Area High School with "Sole Survivor." Congratulations to the winners!

Many special awards were given out, with the winners receiving a tour of the sponsor’s facility. The People’s Choice award, sponsored by Kennywood, went to North Hills Senior High School. Best Presentation, sponsored by Carpenter Powder Products Inc., went to Pine Richland. Shady Side Academy went home with the “On the Shady Side” award sponsored by Westinghouse Electric Company. Best Theme, sponsored by Sony Technology Center – Pittsburgh, went to North Allegheny Intermediate High School, and the United States Steel, Mon Valley Works sponsored Most Wacky award went to Belle Vernon Area High School. The final special award given was Best Use of Duct Tape, sponsored by the Robotics Institute, School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University. This award went to Deer Lakes.

Congratulations to all the schools that participated in the event and thank you for making the event such a success. A special thank you goes out to all the sponsors as well. The contest was also sponsored in part by Bayer Corporation, HATCH and Pittsburgh Conference (PITTCON).
