2017-2018 Contest

The 2017-2018 contest task was to Weigh It! The contest was held on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Carnegie Science Center. Indian Creek High School received eighth place, South Fayette High School finished in seventh place, Seneca Valley Intermediate High School garnered sixth place, Somerset Area Senior High School finished in fifth place, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School received fourth place, Cambria Heights High School received third place, Greater Latrobe Senior High School finished in second place, and congratulations to our first place team, Hempfield Area High School!

In addition to the finalist awards, many special awards were given out, with the winners receiving a tour of the award sponsor's facility. The Best Execution of a Theme award, sponsored by Kennywood, went to Seneca Valley Intermediate High School. Best Use of Gravity, sponsored by Carnegie Science Center, went to Mars Area High School. The What Will You Create? award, sponsored by Inventionland, went to Greater Latrobe Senior High School. The Rookie of the Year award went to Cambria Heights high School and was sponsored by Carnegie Science Center. The Most Green machine was from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School, and the award was sponsored by ALCOSAN. Riverside High School was awarded Best Transportation System, sponsored by Bombardier Transportation. Cornell High School received the Most Efficient Reset award, presented by Bayer HealthCare. The Best Presentation award sponsored by Carnegie Mellon University went to Indian Creek High School's Creek Land contraption. Westinghouse Electric Company LLC sponsored the Longest Successfully Executed Contraption award, which went to Hempfield Area High School.

Congratulations to all of the schools that participated in the 2017-2018 contest and thanks to all of the volunteers and participants who made the event such a success.
